How to make the most of virtual networking events

by | Apr 19, 2021

Virtual networking for businesses has become our reality. And with Face-to-face events still a while off yet The Bridge Marketing shares its top tips on how to get the most from virtual networking.

In some ways the internet has made it easier to connect, with Zoom and integrated chat functions, it has meant getting in contact with individuals or businesses has become even easier. However, a few things remain the same, and the rules of in-person networking still apply to virtual events.

Here are four ways you can get the most out of networking:

  1. Do your research

Make sure you do your research before the event, find out who the key speakers are and know what they do. If there is a certain person you want to speak to, try and find some common ground. Doing your homework improves your chances of the other person being receptive to your approach and ideas.

  1. Prepare what you want to say

Before the event you should plan what you want to say about your business, and how you plan on engaging with your audience. It is important to keep it short and easy to understand, to ensure the group pays attention to all the details that you have to say.

  1. Be clear on what you want the outcome to be

Having a specific goal for what you want to achieve out of the networking session, can help you to remain focussed during the event. Are your promoting your business? Are you trying to build your connections or client list? Pinpoint what exactly it is you want the outcome to be and figure out how you are going to go about doing it.

  1. Stay in touch

This may be the most important step after an event as any interest or relationships you’ve established whilst networking, need to be followed up and built upon.

Just like any relationship, professional relationships require time and effort. Your actions need to have intention to build upon the connection you made through the event. Whether that’s setting up a 1-2-1, adding them to your mailing list or updating them with news every now and again, you need to ensure you maintain that progress in creative or meaningful ways.
